
A 27-year-old man, identified as Kabiru Nuhu, has been taken into police custody for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father ablaze in Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Shi’isu Adam, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect poured a flammable substance, believed to be petrol, on his father before igniting it.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of April 1, 2026, at about 6:30 a.m. in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town.
Police authorities revealed that they received a distress report from a resident, prompting a swift response from officers.
The victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility but later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Adam further disclosed that the suspect was arrested with visible injuries and is currently in custody.
He noted that the case is being treated as patricide, a grave offence under Nigerian law. The suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be served.
He also urged residents to adopt peaceful means in resolving disputes and encouraged the public to report any signs of domestic conflict or violence to the nearest authorities.
The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order, while calling on anyone with relevant information to assist in the ongoing investigation.
