The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has ordered an immediate evacuation of students from its hostels following escalating security concerns in Jos and nearby areas.
The directive was announced on Wednesday by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, after reports of “near chaotic situations” earlier in the day close to the university, which raised fears about the safety of students on campus.
To assist with the evacuation, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has arranged transportation, with vehicles permitted to operate even during curfew hours.

In a statement issued by Deputy Registrar (Information and Public Relations) Emmanuel Madugu on behalf of the Registrar, the university outlined a two-phase evacuation plan. Students whose parents or guardians live within Jos and surrounding areas were scheduled to leave starting Wednesday at 3:00 pm, while those whose families reside outside the area are to be evacuated on Thursday.
University authorities also reassured students and staff that security measures have been strengthened to safeguard the campus and hostel facilities.
