
Tragedy struck in Niger State as a team of illegal miners reportedly attacked a patrol unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), resulting in the death of one officer and the burning of their patrol van.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred in the early hours when the NSCDC team approached a mining site suspected of illegal operations.
Tensions escalated quickly as the miners resisted, leading to a violent confrontation. The attackers set the patrol van on fire before fleeing the scene, leaving the officer critically injured.
Authorities have condemned the act, describing it as a serious threat to law enforcement and community safety.
