Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday carried out a search of the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as part of an ongoing investigation into the state’s finances during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.
The search was confirmed by El-Rufai’s media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, who posted on his verified X account that the former governor’s Aso Drive residence had been searched by ICPC operatives.
El-Rufai remains in the custody of the anti-graft agency as investigations into alleged financial mismanagement continue.
His lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemned the search, calling it “unlawful and a violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”

He did not indicate whether the legal team would challenge the action in court or if any property was seized during the operation.
The development adds to the widening scrutiny of El-Rufai’s eight-year administration, during which both the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have engaged him over alleged financial improprieties.
Requests for comment from the ICPC were not immediately answered.
