Residents of Bargu community in Awe Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, have been thrown into shock following the confession of 40-year-old housewife, Mrs. Esther Jemkwe, who admitted to an illicit relationship with her 23-year-old stepson, Theophilus.
Esther revealed that she took the drastic step in a desperate bid to conceive a child for her husband, Mr. Audu Jemkwe, after discovering that he became impotent a few weeks into their marriage in 2022.
Audu, 51, had previously been married, and his first marriage produced Theophilus, who stayed with his father following the separation.
Speaking to our correspondent, Esther explained that the intense pressure to bear a child for her husband, coupled with family interference, drove her to make the controversial decision.
She described their marriage as initially loving, noting that Audu’s caring nature and sexual performance had attracted her to him—saying that one of the reasons she married him was because he was “good in bed.”

However, his sexual health issues soon strained the relationship.
Esther, the only child of her late parents who died during the farmers-herders crisis, had struggled to find a genuine husband and had married Audu with the hope of starting a family.
When it became clear that her husband’s impotence could not be resolved, she secretly developed a relationship with Theophilus, who works as a mechanic, while she trades, hoping to fulfill her desire for a child.
The affair eventually led to her pregnancy, but Audu denied paternity and accused her of infidelity, asking her to leave the home. Esther admitted that her actions, intended to save her marriage, ultimately backfired.
She also revealed that ongoing pressure and interference from her in-laws, particularly Audu’s mother, made her life unbearable.
The revelation has sparked widespread condemnation in the community, with leaders reportedly deliberating on the next steps.
It remains unclear whether law enforcement has been formally notified or if legal action will follow.
