Residents of Jikamshi village in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State were thrown into panic after suspected gunmen stormed the community, killing three people and looting several shops.
The attack occurred on Tuesday evening as villagers prepared to break their Ramadan fast. Witnesses said the assailants, numbering more than 20 and riding on motorcycles, entered the farming settlement from the northern outskirts and began shooting sporadically along the village’s main road.
Terrified residents fled into nearby homes and alleys as the gunmen moved through the community. During the raid, the attackers reportedly broke into several shops, including fabric, children’s clothing and cosmetics stores, carting away goods, money and mobile phones left charging in the shops.
Three residents were fatally shot during the assault. One of the victims, who had recently returned from Lagos, was reportedly sitting near the entrance of the village when he was killed.
Another victim was shot while trying to flee from a welding workshop, while the third, believed to be a deaf resident, was gunned down as he attempted to escape.
