Gunmen have demanded a ₦200 million ransom for the release of a young medical doctor, Ibrahim Tahir, and his brother, Abu, who were abducted in Auchi, Edo State, on January 2.
The victims’ father, Momoh Tahir, said the kidnappers contacted the family shortly after the abduction and initially demanded ₦200 million. He explained that after negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₦100 million, adding that the family was hopeful further discussions would lead to an additional reduction.
Describing the ordeal as distressing, Tahir prayed for the safe return of his children. “They have been in touch with us since the kidnapping. They first asked for ₦200 million, but we were able to negotiate it down to ₦100 million. We are still hoping it will be reduced further. This is a very difficult time for us, but we pray they return home safely,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said the abduction was reported on January 2 at about 8:30 p.m. She noted that security operatives immediately launched a search and rescue operation.

According to her, the Divisional Police Officer in Auchi mobilised officers to the scene along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, working in collaboration with vigilantes, forest guards, and Community Safety Partnership volunteers familiar with the terrain. She added that intensive search efforts within the surrounding forest were ongoing, assuring the public that the command was committed to rescuing the victims safely.
Ibrahim Tahir is currently undergoing his housemanship at the Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi. A family source disclosed that the abduction occurred in front of his residence as he was trying to open his gate after returning from work.
“This is deeply troubling. A young doctor whose only mission is to serve humanity has become a victim of insecurity,” the source said, calling on security agencies and the Edo State Government to act swiftly to secure his unconditional release.
