Group hails Kebbi students’ rescue, urges authorities to boost school safety

The rescue of the 24 students abducted from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has continued to draw nationwide commendation.

The schoolgirls were taken in the early hours of Monday, November 17, during an attack on the school. One student managed to escape shortly after the incident, while the remaining girls regained their freedom on Tuesday.

Among those reacting to the development is the Network for Peace and Development (NPD), which praised the Federal Government and security agencies for the coordinated operation that led to the rescue.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Moses Adamu, the group highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s prompt directive to security operatives as a key factor in the swift response.

Adamu also recognised the efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and personnel involved in the mission.

He noted that the NPD supported the operation by providing community intelligence and mobilising local hunters during the eight-day search.

The group further expressed condolences over the death of the school’s vice principal, Malami Hassan Makuku, and urged authorities to prioritise stronger safety measures in schools across the country.
