
A tragic incident has claimed the life of Ghanaian footballer Dominic Frimpong after armed attackers ambushed a team bus returning from an away match on Sunday night.
According to reports from Ghanaian football authorities, the player’s club, Berekum Chelsea FC, was travelling along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin area of the Ashanti Region when masked gunmen opened fire on the vehicle.
Witness accounts indicate that the attackers, armed with guns and other weapons, forced players and staff off the bus and into nearby bushes before carrying out a robbery.
The incident reportedly occurred around 10:30 p.m. local time.
During the attack, Frimpong sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
A second victim, identified as George Owusu Afriyie, was also robbed of cash during the incident, according to police statements.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed the attack and described it as a violent robbery case under investigation. Authorities say the assailants escaped after the operation, leaving casualties and fear among survivors.
The Ghana Football Association expressed deep sorrow over the player’s death, calling it a major loss to both the club and national football. Officials praised Frimpong as a talented young forward with promising potential.
The 20-year-old striker had recently joined Aduana Stars FC on loan move to Berekum Chelsea earlier in the year. He reportedly featured in 13 league matches and scored two goals before his untimely death.
The football community across Ghana has continued to mourn the incident, describing it as one of the most disturbing security tragedies involving a league team in recent times.
