Nigeria’s Super Eagles played out a 2-2 draw against Jordan in an international friendly in Antalya, Turkey, with Emmanuel Fernandez grabbing the headlines after scoring his first goal for the national team, while Alex Iwobi was sent off late in the encounter.
Head coach Eric Chelle made several changes to the side that defeated Iran in their previous outing, handing a starting role to Fernandez alongside Igoh Ogbu in defence.
In attack, Yira Sor was introduced, joining Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams in a refreshed frontline.
Jordan made the brighter start and took the lead in the 17th minute through Mousa Tamari, who finished off a well-worked set-piece with a powerful strike from distance.
Nigeria responded positively and restored parity in the 26th minute. Simon reacted quickest after Lookman’s effort was blocked, controlling the loose ball before firing a well-taken shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

The Super Eagles turned the game around just before the break. A dangerous delivery from Bright Osayi-Samuel caused confusion in the Jordanian defence, allowing Fernandez to pounce at the back post and calmly slot home his first international goal to give Nigeria a 2-1 lead.
The second half, however, proved more challenging for the Nigerians. Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was forced off with an apparent injury and replaced by Adebayo Adeleye, while Chelle introduced Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi in a bid to maintain control in midfield.
Despite the changes, Jordan found their equaliser in the 77th minute when substitute Mohammad Al-Daoud finished from close range after connecting with a precise cross from Noor Al-Rawabdeh.
Nigeria pushed forward in search of a late winner, with further substitutions including Samuel Chukwueze and debutant Philip Otele, but they were unable to find a decisive goal.
The match ended on a sour note for the Super Eagles as Iwobi was shown a red card in stoppage time for violent conduct, reducing Nigeria to ten men.
While the draw extends Nigeria’s unbeaten run under Chelle, the late equaliser and Iwobi’s dismissal will be key concerns for the coaching crew as they look ahead to upcoming fixtures.
