FCT Minister Wike Accused of Paying Protesters Amid Abuja Workers’ Strike

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been accused of hiring protesters to stage a public show of support for his administration amid the ongoing strike by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of unions in Abuja.

Sources say that groups of pro-Wike supporters were brought from different parts of the city and assembled along Umaru Diko Way, off Ahmadu Bello Way, holding placards in favor of the FCT administration.

Footage from the scene reportedly shows several vehicles dropping off participants, some of whom appeared unsure of the messages they carried, raising doubts about the authenticity of the protest.

The demonstration comes as workers under the JAC continue their industrial action over unresolved welfare and labor-related grievances.

The unions have accused the FCT authorities of failing to honor agreements and attempting to intimidate workers rather than engaging constructively to address their demands.

In a statement, the JAC confirmed that the strike would continue indefinitely, stressing that the appeal of the National Industrial Court ruling legally sustains their industrial action.

The union praised workers for complying with the stay-at-home directive despite alleged threats and harassment from government officials.

“Strike action continues. We will not relent in our struggle,” the union said, urging members to remain united and warning the authorities that coercion would not end the industrial action.

The JAC emphasized that resolution depends on genuine engagement from the FCT leadership rather than intimidation tactics.
