A man has been arrested after allegedly throwing his two children from the third floor of a three-storey building in the Umuobe community near Aba Main Town, Abia State.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, also saw the suspect jump from the same building after reportedly threatening his wife. The motive behind his actions has not yet been established.
Residents said the children’s cries attracted neighbours, who quickly rushed to the scene, rescued the victims and took them to a hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite the fall, both children survived but sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The suspect also survived the jump and was taken to a separate hospital under police custody.
Some residents speculated that the man’s behaviour may have been influenced by drug use, while others expressed differing opinions about the possible cause of the incident. However, authorities have not confirmed any of these claims.

The Abia State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that officers responded immediately after receiving a distress report at about 6:00 p.m. on July 30.
Police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka said the children are receiving treatment in one hospital, while their father is being treated in another medical facility.
She added that the suspect remains in police custody and that a full investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
