The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has dismissed reports claiming there was an attempted aircraft hijack at Akure Airport, describing the information as false and misleading.
In posts shared on X on Monday, the agency clarified that its earlier statement about a security operation near the airport never suggested any hijacking incident.
FAAN also addressed a viral image circulating online, stating that the picture did not originate from the airport and does not reflect any event that occurred there.

According to the authority, the confusion followed a security operation carried out around the airport after suspicious individuals were spotted near the perimeter towards the Eleyewo community.
During the operation, four suspected bandits were arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.
FAAN commended the collaboration between aviation security personnel and local security groups, including the Amotekun Corps, noting that the joint effort helped prevent any potential threat around the airport environment.
The agency reassured the public that there was no hijack incident and urged people to rely on verified information from official sources.
