Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday appeared at the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the continuation of his bail hearing, following a dramatic twist in earlier proceedings.
El-Rufai arrived at the court premises around 9:00am and stepped out of his vehicle minutes later, drawing the attention of security operatives and a small number of observers present.
The hearing resumes after Tuesday’s session was stalled due to a series of legal moves by the defence team that introduced fresh complications to the case.
Notably, the defence had filed a motion asking the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, to step down over alleged bias and a pending petition questioning the court’s impartiality.
However, in a surprising turn, the same defence team later sought to withdraw that application, creating confusion and triggering intense legal arguments between both parties.
The back-and-forth contributed significantly to the delay in proceeding with the bail application.

The situation became more complex when the prosecution submitted a counter-affidavit opposing El-Rufai’s bail, leaving the defence with limited time to respond adequately.
In light of these developments, Justice Aikawa adjourned the matter to Wednesday to allow for the continuation of the bail hearing.
Security was visibly tightened around the court premises, with armed personnel stationed at strategic points to control movement.
Journalists, including reporters were denied access to the courtroom as officials enforced strict entry restrictions.
The case continues to attract significant public and legal attention as proceedings unfold.
