
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 individuals suspected of undergoing training in internet fraud at an academy located in Becki Estate, Karu, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, April 9, 2026, led to the apprehension of two alleged leaders of the facility alongside several trainees, who were reportedly being groomed for cybercrime activities.
According to the EFCC, items recovered during the raid include multiple mobile phones, 18 laptops, and other electronic devices believed to have been used for fraudulent operations.
Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the trainees were allegedly lured from Benue State under the pretense of legitimate job opportunities.

However, upon arrival at the facility, they were reportedly introduced to tools and software designed for internet fraud.
The anti-graft agency further disclosed that the academy operated under strict conditions, with trainees allegedly confined within the premises, restricted from external communication, and stripped of access to their personal mobile devices.
There are also reports that individuals who failed to comply with the rules of the facility were subjected to physical punishment.
The EFCC stated that the suspects will be formally charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
