
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 20 individuals over alleged electoral offences during the recent Federal Capital Territory local government elections.
According to a statement by the EFCC, the arrests were made on Saturday, February 21, 2026, across Abaji, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali, with the suspects implicated in vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of election officials.
The commission also recovered a total of ₦17,218,700, including ₦13.5 million found in a car parked beside a polling booth in Kwali.

“The suspects will be charged to court after investigations,” the statement added.
Reports from election observers, including the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD-West Africa), indicated that voters in several units were offered cash ranging from ₦1,000 to ₦5,000 to influence their choice.
The February 21 elections, conducted across the six FCT area councils, saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning five chairmanship seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one.
The EFCC’s action underscores the government’s commitment to curbing electoral malpractices and enforcing accountability in the democratic process.
