Davido: Nigerian Music Industry Would Have Been Boring Without My Impact

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that the Nigerian music industry would have been boring without his impact.

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stirred debate after claiming that the Nigerian music industry would have been boring without his influence.

The singer made the statement on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, writing, “Imagine no Davido… sh*t [the music industry] would have been boring AF.”

His comment quickly sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans agreeing with his impact on Afrobeats, while others accused him of exaggerating his role in the industry.

This is not the first time Davido has described himself as a major force in Nigerian music. In an April 2025 interview with Apple Music, he claimed the industry “shut down” when he took a break from social media in November 2022 following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

According to him, fans and critics alike begged for his return during the three-month absence.

Davido rose to prominence in 2011 with his breakout hit Dami Duro, during a period when Afrobeats was experiencing a surge led by artists such as Wizkid.

Meanwhile, veteran music producer Samkleff recently alleged that Davido’s emergence introduced rivalry and toxicity into the Nigerian music scene, claiming that artists enjoyed more mutual respect before his rise to stardom.
