The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the wife of Ubani Okuo, Chairman of the Youth Group in Igarra Community, the headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

The incident was confirmed on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, who said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, had directed Divisional Police Officers in the area to collaborate to ensure the victim’s rescue.

“We received a report of a suspected kidnapping. The Commissioner of Police has ordered Divisional Police Officers in the area to work together to rescue the victim,” she said.

A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Okuo’s wife was kidnapped on Tuesday night while returning home from her shop in Igarra.

Following the incident, the community imposed a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursday. Night burial dances have also been restricted to between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

“It is true. We suspect that these bad elements now live among us and may even mingle with our people before carrying out their acts at night,” the monarch said.

“The imposition of the curfew is a joint decision by the local government chairman, the police, and the traditional institution, and it will be enforced across the entire local government area.”
