
A Cessna 172 aircraft operated by Skypower Express crashed on Tuesday evening at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State, triggering a swift response from airport emergency teams.
“The aircraft, registered 5N-ASR, was flying from Kaduna to Port Harcourt when the crew declared an emergency, prompting a diversion to Owerri.
A Skypower Express Cessna 172 crashed near Runway 17 at Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri, around 8 p.m., with four people on board.
Thankfully, no fatalities were reported, and flight operations continued safely. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is recovering the aircraft for examination, having activated its protocols.
NSIB’s Director-General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., expressed sympathy to the airline while welcoming the absence of casualties.
