Nigerian music star Burna Boy has sparked widespread debate after sharing a controversial post on social media addressing global reactions to international conflicts.
In a message posted on Facebook, the Grammy-winning artist criticized what he described as double standards in global politics and media coverage, particularly in how conflicts involving different countries are perceived.
His comments followed reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a joint United States–Israeli airstrike on February 28, 2026. Khamenei, who was 86, had led the country since 1989 after succeeding Ruhollah Khomeini. The strike reportedly targeted his compound in Tehran and also resulted in the deaths of several family members and senior officials.
Reacting to the development, Burna Boy questioned what he sees as inconsistent public responses to global conflicts. In his post, he wrote that many people strongly condemn actions such as Russian invasion of Ukraine but remain silent when Western powers carry out military actions elsewhere.
“Some of you will shout when Russia moves in Ukraine… But suddenly go blind when the West bombs Iran. That’s not justice. That’s propaganda,” he wrote. He also suggested that media narratives influence how people interpret global events, saying the same media outlets often shape public opinion about “who to hate.”
The singer further addressed what he described as widespread Islamophobia, arguing that hostility toward Islam can prevent people from seeing global issues objectively. He stated that he supports peace, freedom, and financial education rather than taking sides in geopolitical conflicts.
Burna Boy concluded his message by encouraging followers to question the narratives they see in the media and to “open your eyes.”

The post, which also included an image of the artist alongside Khamenei that appeared to be AI-generated, quickly gained attention online and triggered mixed reactions from fans and critics.
The discussion comes shortly after Burna Boy revealed he had converted to Islam, a decision he said came after personal research and reflection. During a livestream conversation with PlaqueBoyMax, he explained that although he was raised Christian, he eventually found spiritual peace in Islam. His associate Rahman Jago also shared a video celebrating the announcement on social media.
