
The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 59-year-old man, Julius Nyikwa, for allegedly sexually assaulting his 10-year-old niece in the Keteren-Gwari area of Minna.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on February 16, 2026, when the child was allegedly lured into the suspect’s room.
The victim’s grandmother, who lives in the same compound, noticed her entering the room and immediately raised the alarm.
Neighbors quickly intervened and informed the police.
Nyikwa, who is visually impaired, lives with his wife, the victim’s aunt and other family members in the same compound.

Authorities said this was not the first time the suspect allegedly targeted the child.
The Project Director of Global Promoters for Community Initiatives, Mr. Olasukanmi Kalejaiye, described the situation as “deeply unfortunate” and stressed the importance of ensuring justice is served.
Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrest and stated that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
He assured the public that the suspect will face legal proceedings soon.
“Following the alarm raised by the child’s grandmother, the suspect was immediately apprehended by the police,” SP Abiodun said, reiterating the commitment of law enforcement to protect children and vulnerable members of the community.
