Bashir Ahmad Urges South-East Stakeholders to Caution Nnamdi Kanu

Bashir Ahmad has called on South-East stakeholders to advise IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to act responsibly while in the Sokoto Custodial Centre.

Ahmad, who previously served as a media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, made the appeal while reacting to concerns surrounding Kanu’s conduct.

Describing Kanu as a convicted terrorist, Ahmad cautioned South-East stakeholders against giving him false hope.

He wrote on X that many of those now speaking up failed to offer any support while Kanu was still awaiting judgment.

He argued that South-East stakeholders should focus on advising Nnamdi Kanu—whom he described as a convicted terrorist—to behave responsibly in the Sokoto Custodial Centre, instead of raising false hopes about securing his release.

According to him, these stakeholders did nothing while Kanu awaited judgment, and they cannot reverse a verdict already issued by a competent court.

Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre after being convicted by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism-related charges.

The Nigerian government had taken him to court over his activities and agitation for the Biafra movement.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State recently visited Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Custodial Centre. Following the meeting, he held discussions with President Bola Tinubu regarding the IPOB leader’s case.
