
Residents of Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State were thrown into panic following a late-night attack by suspected bandits, which left several people abducted and others injured.
The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when heavily armed assailants reportedly invaded the quiet village through a route linked to the notorious Sabon Birni forest.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers struck while residents were asleep, forcing many to flee for safety amid sporadic gunfire.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least nine persons mostly women and elderly men were abducted during the attack while two others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
Confirming the development on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Sokoto State, Ahmad Rufai, stated that the command had swiftly mobilised tactical teams to the area.

“The command is aware of the incident and has already swung into action. Tactical teams have been deployed, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact number of abducted persons,” Rufai said.
He further assured residents that efforts were underway to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe rescue of the victims.
Rufai also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
“The safety of lives and property remains our top priority,” he added.
The attack has heightened fears among residents over the increasing wave of banditry in the region, with renewed calls for a stronger and sustained security presence to prevent further attacks.
