Anambra Governorship: INEC Lists 2,802,790 Eligible Voters, Maintains Tough Stance on Vote-Buying

INEC announced on Monday that it has cleared a total of 2,802,790 eligible voters to participate in the November 8 Anambra governorship election, following the approval of the final voters’ register.

Prof. Joash Amupitan, Chairman of INEC, made the announcement in Awka during the Peace Accord signing ceremony organised by the National Peace Committee (NPC) ahead of the governorship off-cycle election.

He revealed that the commission has completed arrangements for the deployment of 24,000 personnel and election materials to 5,718 polling units, 326 ward collation centres, as well as the 21 local government and state collation centres.

He reiterated the commission’s firm commitment to tackling vote-buying during the election, warning that anyone — whether an individual or a group — who tries to undermine the will of the people will face strict legal consequences.
The Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) has rolled out comprehensive security arrangements for the poll.

According to him, the Nigeria Police Force will deploy 45,000 officers, while the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will send 10,250 personnel, in addition to support from other security agencies.

He assured voters that they can look forward to improved Election Day logistics, with strengthened result-management procedures also in place.
