A native doctor based in Nnewi, Anambra State, identified as John Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmou Mmili Afulu Anya,” has been arrested by the state’s security outfit, Agunechemba, for allegedly engaging in practices that violate the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
Ezenagu was apprehended on Friday and taken to his residence in Nnewi, where security operatives conducted a thorough search while questioning him about the nature of his activities.
According to the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, the suspect was accused of luring young men and women with promises of instant wealth.
He allegedly instructed them to bathe in a stream located behind his residence as part of the ritual process.
Emeakayi stated that such activities are in clear violation of the state’s Homeland Security Law.
He noted that the native doctor had previously been warned to stop the practice but reportedly continued despite the caution.
“After investigations are concluded, he will be handed over to the police for further inquiry and possible prosecution if found guilty,” Emeakayi said.
While addressing journalists during the parade, Ezenagu expressed remorse over his actions. He claimed he was unaware that his activities violated the law and appealed for forgiveness from Governor Soludo, the Anambra State Government, and the people of the state.

The suspect explained that he had dredged the river and believed he had control over it, adding that he would no longer engage in activities that could pollute or misuse the water body.
“I have sinned. I appeal to Governor Soludo for forgiveness and promise to turn a new leaf. I vow never to deceive young people in the state again,” he said.
It will be recalled that in January 2025, Governor Chukwuma Soludo signed the Agunechemba Homeland Security Law after it was passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly.
The law aims to strengthen community-based security and encourage citizens’ participation in maintaining safety and social order across the state.
