Super Falcons Captain: Rasheedat Ajibade
Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has openly criticised the team’s level of preparation ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), raising concerns about Nigeria’s readiness to defend their title.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had earlier rescheduled the tournament, moving it from March to July 2026, with Morocco set to host the competition.
As part of their build-up, the Super Falcons played two international friendlies against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses during the February international window and again on Tuesday. However, plans for additional preparatory matches have suffered a setback.
The team was scheduled to face Cape Verde in a double-header of friendly matches next week, but the fixtures were cancelled after Cape Verde withdrew, leaving the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) searching for a replacement opponent.

Reacting to the situation, Ajibade expressed her frustration in a post shared on Instagram, questioning the seriousness of the team’s preparations.
“We are preparing for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and also fighting for World Cup qualification. Why are we not preparing with the seriousness and intensity this demands? Abeg, wetin be all this one? For how long?” she wrote.
The Super Falcons are the defending champions, having secured a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in the last edition of the tournament.
The 2026 tournament will also serve as a qualifying route for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, making adequate preparation crucial for the team’s success.
