
Several people are feared dead and many others injured following bomb explosions on Monday evening in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The blasts reportedly occurred at about 7:02 p.m. around the popular Monday Market area near Elkanemi and close to a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Operations for the Federal Fire Service in Borno State, Mohammed Kafaran, said emergency teams had been deployed to the affected locations.
“Yes, there was a bomb explosion at the Monday Market area around Elkanemi. Our team has been sent there to assess the situation, and we will provide updates shortly,” he said.

Eyewitnesses said several injured victims were quickly evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the wounded were reportedly taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
One witness described the chaotic scene, saying that bodies could be seen on the ground while many people with injuries were being rushed away for medical attention.
Another resident, who asked not to be identified, said the explosion happened shortly after he left the post office.
“I had just left the post office and was on my way when I suddenly heard a loud blast,” he recounted.
Emergency responders are still carrying out rescue efforts and assessing the damage, while authorities are expected to release more details as the situation develops.
