Ugandan stars Melvyn Lorenzen and Timothy Awany face a shocking ultimatum from their foreign clubs over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Lorenzen, who plays for Thailand’s Muangthong United, and Awany, of Israeli side FC Ashdod, have reportedly been warned that their contracts could be terminated if they join the Cranes for AFCON.
The Cranes’ media officer, Paul Mukatabala, confirmed the threats, sparking widespread outrage across African football circles.
FIFA, however, mandates that clubs must release players invited for international duty at least a week before the tournament.
Morocco is set to host the 2025 AFCON finals from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
