
A butcher in Umuahia has been arrested for stabbing a customer in the neck following an argument over the price of meat.
The incident occurred on March 14, 2026, at Orie Ugba Market, according to DSP Maureen Chinaka, Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State.
The dispute reportedly began when the customer complained that the meat was overpriced. The butcher, insisting that his prices were fair, became agitated, leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated.

Police operatives from the Central Police Station rushed to the scene, and the victim was immediately taken to a hospital.
Reports indicate that the victim is responding well to treatment.
DSP Chinaka confirmed that the suspect is in police custody and that a full investigation is ongoing. She added that the butcher will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.
The police have urged market traders and residents to resolve disputes peacefully and report violent incidents to authorities promptly.
