Court Grants Malami, Wife, Son ₦500 Million Bail Each

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), along with his wife and son, bail of ₦500 million each.

Justice Emeka Nwite set strict conditions for their release, requiring submission of landed property documents and travel papers.

Each defendant must provide two sureties who own property in Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa, and the sureties must swear affidavits of means.

Malami must deposit his travel documents with the court and cannot leave the country without permission. Two recent passport photographs from the defendants and their sureties were also demanded.


Malami will remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until all bail conditions are perfected. The trial over 16 counts of alleged money laundering, totaling around ₦9 billion, is scheduled to commence on February 17, 2026.


The former AGF has been in EFCC custody since December 8, 2025, after failing to meet the anti-graft agency’s bail requirements.
