
The Abia State Police Command has opened an investigation into the incident that claimed the life of community leader Igwe Akwu in the Okon-Aku area of Ohafia Local Government last Friday.
Police spokesperson ASP Maureen Chinaka said officers were immediately deployed to the area on the orders of Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, leading to the restoration of calm in the community.
She disclosed that four injured persons were taken to the hospital and are responding to treatment, while several suspects have been arrested and are currently being interrogated.
The command urged residents to remain peaceful and avoid reprisals, assuring that those found culpable would be charged to court at the end of the investigation. Security monitoring in the area is ongoing to prevent further unrest.

Meanwhile, the Council of OhafiaMonarchs condemned the incident, describing the killing and subsequent acts of arson as unjustifiable and harmful to the progress of the community.
The traditional rulers appealed to rival groups to lay down their arms while efforts continue to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
