Obidient Movement Reaffirms Support for Peter Obi’s Presidential Bid

The Obidient Movement has restated its firm commitment to the presidential ambition of former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, dismissing speculations about shifting alliances or support for any alternative political arrangement.

In a statement issued over the weekend and signed by its National Coordinator, Dr Tanko Yunusa, the Movement said the clarification became necessary following what it described as deliberate misrepresentation of comments made during a recent interview, particularly regarding rumours of collaboration with coalition efforts within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Dr Yunusa described the Obidient Movement as a nationwide, values-driven democratic platform committed to good governance, accountability, and the rule of law. He emphasized that the Movement’s sole objective is to ensure the emergence of credible leadership in Nigeria through lawful and democratic processes.

According to the statement, the Movement’s ideals, energy, and collective resolve remain “unequivocally committed” to Peter Obi’s aspiration to become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It stressed that the Movement is willing to align with any political party that reflects Obi’s principles, leadership vision, and commitment to national development.

The leadership maintained that its support for Obi is based on his perceived competence, integrity, discipline, economic expertise, democratic credentials, and international credibility, adding that this view is shared by a majority of Nigerians across regions and demographics.

The statement further made it clear that the Obidient Movement is not mobilised to support Obi as a vice-presidential candidate under any arrangement, insisting that its backing is solely for his emergence as president.

While confirming current support for Obi within the ADC presidential primary process, the Movement said it would respect the outcome if the process is transparent and credible. However, it warned that any compromised process would prompt a lawful and united response in line with its principles.

Dr Yunusa also affirmed that wherever Peter Obi, acting within the law and guided by conscience, decides to pursue his presidential ambition, the Obidient Movement would follow, stressing that its loyalty lies with Obi’s leadership vision and Nigeria’s national renewal rather than political convenience.

Reiterating its commitment to peaceful and democratic engagement, the Movement said it would not compromise its principles or be deterred by misinformation or political pressure.

The statement concluded with a call on Nigerians to remain united and focused, expressing confidence that a Peter Obi presidency represents a viable path to national renewal, economic recovery, and accountable governance.
