Six Rivers lawmakers dump PDP for APC in major political shift

In a major political shake-up, six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement came during Tuesday’s plenary session, sending ripples through the state’s political landscape.

The defectors—Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Victor Obuzor, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, Hon. Cyril Hart, Hon. Blessing Amadi, and Hon. Felix Nwaeke—are reportedly loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Their decision to leave PDP for APC marks a significant shift in the balance of political power in Rivers State.

Political analysts say the move could strengthen APC’s influence in the state ahead of upcoming elections, while raising questions about the internal cohesion and future strategies of PDP.

The defectors cited alignment with APC’s policies and a desire to better serve their constituencies as key reasons for their switch.

This development adds to a series of high-profile defections in Nigeria’s political scene, highlighting the fluid nature of party loyalties and the ongoing realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
