One of the offices of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Abuja was affected by a fire outbreak on Saturday, causing panic in the area.
Videos circulating on social media showed flames engulfing parts of the building as thick smoke billowed into the air. Emergency responders were later deployed to the scene to contain the situation.
As of the time of filing this report, no casualties had been recorded, while the cause of the incident had yet to be officially disclosed.
In a statement issued by Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Re
Ok kvenue Service (FIRS), the agency disclosed that a fire incident occurred at its office situated at No. 15 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
The fire, which broke out on the fourth floor of the building, was promptly responded to by our security personnel on duty,” the statement reads.
With the swift support of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service and other emergency responders, the fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading further.
The agency expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the incident, though several offices on the affected floor were damaged. It added that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, with initial findings suggesting a possible electrical fault.
In the meantime, the agency said all internal safety measures are undergoing a comprehensive review, with additional safeguards being put in place to prevent a recurrence.
The statement also recalled a previous incident in September, when four officials of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) lost their lives in a fire outbreak at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos.
The victims were later identified as Ekelikhostse George and David Sunday-Jatto, both assistant directors, alongside Nkem Onyemelukwe, a senior manager, and Peter Ifaranmaye, a manager.
