The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has congratulated Abubakar Yakubu on his election as President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) during the Guild’s national convention in Benin City, Edo State.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director/CEO, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the NFVCB described Yakubu’s victory as a well-deserved recognition of his years of commitment, professionalism, and service to the Nigerian motion picture industry.
Dr. Husseini noted that Yakubu’s decade-long tenure as Secretary General of the Guild has equipped him with the experience and institutional insight needed to steer the AGN at this critical stage.
“The Actors Guild of Nigeria remains a key stakeholder in the creative economy. Its stability, professionalism, and ethical grounding are essential to the growth and global competitiveness of our film industry,” he said.
He urged the new AGN President to focus on repositioning the Guild, strengthening its internal structures, and improving its ability to serve members effectively. He also emphasized the importance of prioritising members’ welfare, enhancing capacity-building, and investing in programmes that support professional development.
Dr. Husseini advised the new administration to avoid activities outside the Guild’s core mandate, stressing that a focus on mission-driven programmes will ensure credibility, continuity, and measurable outcomes.
The NFVCB expressed confidence in Yakubu’s leadership and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Guild in efforts to advance Nigeria’s creative and entertainment sector.
