A tragic crash on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway has claimed the lives of a family of three, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The accident, which occurred around the Secretariat inward Otedola Bridge, involved multiple vehicles after a speeding, heavily loaded truck rammed into one of the cars, triggering a chain collision.
LASTMA confirmed that the father, mother, and their young child died on the spot, while two other people were rescued with serious injuries. The truck driver reportedly fled immediately after the incident.
Emergency teams, including LASTMA, FRSC, LASEMA, LASAMBUS, SEHMU, and the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, responded swiftly to the scene, rescuing survivors, recovering the bodies, and clearing the expressway.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the loss as heartbreaking and avoidable, urging drivers — especially truck operators — to curb excessive speeding and prioritize safety on the highways.
