First Lady Threatens to Turn Off Adeleke’s Microphone During Performance

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, stirred controversy after she openly warned Governor Ademola Adeleke that she would switch off his microphone if he continued singing during a public event.

The event happened in Ile-Ife, Osun State, during her installation as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua, where Governor Adeleke took the stage and began adding worship songs to his speech.

Midway through his address, Remi Tinubu walked up to the podium and cautioned him, telling him to wrap up his speech within five minutes and drop the singing or risk having the microphone turned off.

The moment quickly spread across social media, prompting widespread reactions and questions about whether her approach was appropriate for such a public setting.

One commentator, Aremo3825981, quipped: “What do you think will happen if he sings ‘on your mandate we shall stand’?”

Another user, U_y_a_i, faulted the First Lady’s action, writing: “Unacceptable public conduct. There are better ways to communicate time limits than threatening to cut off a Governor’s mic.”
