Mortuary Owner Declared Wanted as Police Probe Alleged Organ Harvesting

A mortuary operator in Umuhu Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala LGA of Imo State, Mr. Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, has been declared wanted by the Imo State Police Command following allegations of unlawful activities at his facility.

According to the police, a recent operation at the mortuary—led by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, and supported by local vigilantes—uncovered bodies kept in severely poor conditions and signs that the corpses had been tampered with in ways that raised serious suspicion of organ-related crimes

. The police said the raid was based on credible intelligence tied to ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime in the region, especially around the Owerri–Aba Expressway.

Following the discovery, the Imo State Government ordered the immediate sealing of both the mortuary and the suspect’s hotel within the same community.

A search of Oparaugo’s residence reportedly led to the recovery of items now considered important to the investigation.

The Police Command noted that a forensic report from the State Specialist Hospital will support the ongoing inquiry, adding that all individuals connected to the case will be tracked down and prosecuted.

The statement further urged members of the public to assist with relevant information that could lead to Oparaugo’s arrest, providing an emergency contact number for tips. Security has also been reinforced along major routes in the state as the festive travel season approaches.
