Workers across five tertiary institutions in Taraba State have commenced a two-week warning strike over unpaid allowances, salary deductions and the non-payment of annual increments and promotions for more than 10 years.
The industrial action, declared by the Joint Action Committee of Tertiary Institutions in Taraba State (JACTI), began at midnight on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
The union accused the state government of failing to address its demands despite more than four months of negotiations.
Among the grievances are unpaid academic and non-academic allowances, unexplained salary deductions, withheld union dues and multipurpose savings, as well as the failure to implement annual salary increments and promotions for over a decade.

JACTI also expressed frustration over the government’s failure to provide a definite timeline for implementing previously approved allowances.
The committee said it had earlier issued a 14-day ultimatum but delayed taking action in the hope that the government would resolve the issues.
However, following consultations with workers across the five institutions, the union said it had no option but to embark on the warning strike.
JACTI warned that failure by the Taraba State Government to address the outstanding demands within two weeks could result in an indefinite strike.
