The Sapele area of Delta State has been thrown into mourning following the discovery of the body of a three-year-old boy, identified as Master Lemuel, a day after he was reported missing in the Uko Road area of the town.
The tragic incident has sparked concern among residents, who have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and urged parents and community members to remain vigilant.
According to family sources who spoke with newsmen on Thursday, Lemuel was playing with other children in the neighbourhood on Monday when he was reportedly sent on an errand to buy an item for his father.
The boy, who was said to have been unwell at the time, reportedly left home but did not return.
His disappearance prompted his parents, relatives and neighbours to launch a search. As the search continued without any information about his whereabouts, his father reportedly visited the Gana Police Station to formally report him missing and seek assistance from the authorities.
The search continued into the night before taking a tragic turn the following morning, when Lemuel’s lifeless body was reportedly discovered close to the family residence.
A suspect has since been arrested in connection with the incident, while investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and death.
Meanwhile, the Sapele Local Government Council has expressed condolences to the bereaved family and called for a comprehensive investigation.
The council chairman, Hon. Bright Abeke, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Raymond Overah, led a delegation of council officials on a condolence visit to the family.

Speaking on behalf of the chairman, Overah expressed sadness over the death of the young boy and assured the family that the council would support efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said the chairman had directed relevant security agencies to intensify their investigation, identify anyone connected to the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.
“The council is deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We urge the security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice,” Overah said.
He also urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious individuals, movements or activities to the security agencies.
The council’s intervention came as residents continued to gather around the grieving family, expressing shock and sadness over the death of the young child.
