Tragedy struck in Abuja on Monday evening as unidentified gunmen killed a serving Nigerian Army officer, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, during an attack on his residence in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the officer’s home shortly after he returned from work, allegedly attempting to carry out an abduction.
The situation, however, escalated into violence, leading to the fatal shooting of the senior military officer.
Colonel Ude was confirmed dead at the scene, while his wife, driver, and security guard sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
The injured victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Security sources revealed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including the motive behind the attack.

Law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with military authorities, have launched a manhunt to apprehend those responsible.
The late Colonel Ude, an indigene of Enugu State, served in the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps. He was known for his active involvement in counter-terrorism operations in the North-East and had also participated in international security assignments in countries such as Chad and France.
Colleagues and associates have described him as a dedicated and highly professional officer whose contributions to national and international security efforts will not be forgotten.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
