
World football governing body, FIFA, has opened an investigation into alleged racist abuse directed at popular streamer IShowSpeed during a recent 2026 FIFA World Cup match.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, FIFA confirmed it was aware of an incident involving the content creator—real name Darren Watkins Jr. and a supporter during the Argentina vs Cape Verde fixture held at Miami Stadium on July 3, 2026.
According to FIFA, the matter is being taken seriously, with immediate steps initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“IShowSpeed,” a globally recognized streamer with over 57 million YouTube subscribers, has been actively covering World Cup matches through a special collaboration involving FIFA, YouTube, and U.S. broadcaster Fox Sports.

Reports also indicate that the 21-year-old was subjected to further racial abuse during Argentina’s subsequent match against Egypt, where an individual allegedly made offensive gestures during an interaction with the streamer.
FIFA strongly condemned the alleged actions, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on discrimination.
“Racism, hate, and discrimination have no place in football or anywhere in society,” the statement emphasized.
The investigation remains ongoing as FIFA continues efforts to uphold inclusivity and respect across the global football community.
