The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has removed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Oyigbo Police Division following allegations of extortion and abuse of office.
The decision came after a rights activist accused the officer of extorting ₦500,000 from a man who was allegedly arrested and detained without any known offence. The activist reportedly shared evidence of the transaction on social media, drawing widespread public attention and criticism.
Further allegations claimed that the officer filed controversial charges against a woman involved in a dispute with her estranged husband. According to the activist, the woman was accused of stealing her own children and was subsequently remanded in a correctional facility based on the charges.
