United States manager Mauricio Pochettino has hailed Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni as the best coach at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to the media ahead of the USA’s clash with Australia on Friday, the Argentine coach praised Scaloni’s achievements and familiarity with his staff.
“Many of Argentina’s players are world champions from Qatar. The coach is the best one at this World Cup, and I know his staff very well, and the fans are amazing,” Pochettino said.

He added that facing Argentina is made tougher by the presence of Lionel Messi. “And then the ‘cherry’ is Messi. It’s a difficult combination to play against.”
Both the USA and Argentina opened their World Cup campaigns with wins, defeating Paraguay and Algeria respectively.
If the USA top Group D and Argentina win their group, the two sides could only meet in the semi-final or final of the tournament.
