
The iconic 1958 FIFA World Cup winner’s medal belonging to Brazilian football legend is expected to sell for as much as £500,000 ($670,000) at an upcoming auction in England.
The historic medal, earned when Pelé was just 17 years old, forms part of an extensive collection of over 450 World Cup-related items being offered by sports memorabilia specialists BUDDS. The entire catalogue is projected to generate around £2 million.
Pelé played a pivotal role in Brazil’s triumph at the 1958 tournament, scoring twice in the final against Sweden to secure a 5–2 victory.
That win marked Brazil’s first World Cup title, the beginning of a record five championships, three of which were inspired by the player famously known as “The King.”
In a separate high-profile auction scheduled at in New York, a Brazil jersey worn by Pelé during the 1958 final is estimated to exceed $6 million, underscoring the enduring global value of his legacy.

The auction will also feature other historic football memorabilia, including the shirt worn by England goalkeeper during his legendary save against Pelé at the 1970 World Cup, alongside items from England’s 1966 World Cup-winning squad.
According to David Convery, head of sporting memorabilia at BUDDS, the collection represents one of the most significant assemblies of World Cup artifacts ever brought to auction.
An online bidding phase is currently underway, running from June 1 to June 21, with a live auction set for June 25 in Wellingborough, England.
Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, passed away in December 2022 at the age of 82 after a battle with colon cancer. His legacy, however, continues to command global admiration—and extraordinary value.
