Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed two suspected armed bandits during a security operation in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering firearms and ammunition from the scene.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the 6 Brigade in collaboration with Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke in response to intelligence reports of suspected criminal activity in a forest area near the “Welcome to Donga” axis in Akate District.
According to a statement from the Army, the operation took place on May 24, 2026, after troops received credible information about gunshots in the area.

Soldiers were swiftly deployed to the location where they launched a coordinated raid on a suspected hideout.
On arrival, the troops reportedly engaged armed suspects in a gun duel, during which two of the bandits were neutralised.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, and other personal belongings.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, urging them to sustain ongoing operations against criminal groups operating in the state.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the military to continue intensified operations aimed at restoring peace and security across Taraba State, particularly in troubled areas such as Donga Local Government Area.
The Army noted that its reward and sanction system would apply to personnel involved in the operation, while assuring residents of continued efforts to rid the region of armed criminal elements.
Security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes, have persisted in parts of Taraba State in recent years, especially across Donga, Takum, Bali, and Wukari areas.
