Taiwo Awoniyi has revisited two defining moments from his early days at Nottingham Forest, highlighting the goals that cemented his place in the club’s modern history.
Following Forest’s return to the Premier League in 2022 after a 23-year absence, Awoniyi etched his name into the record books by scoring the club’s first top-flight goal of the 21st century.
The Nigerian striker found the net in first-half stoppage time to secure a 1-0 victory over West Ham United on August 14, 2022.
Describing the moment, Awoniyi said it felt like a dream fulfilled, noting the pride of scoring his first Premier League goal and making history for the club.
He emphasized that it remains one of the most unforgettable highlights of his career.

However, his goal against Liverpool on October 22, 2022, carried deeper emotional significance. Awoniyi, who spent six years contracted to Liverpool without making a competitive appearance due to work permit challenges, scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 win for Forest.
Having been loaned out multiple times during his stint with the Merseyside club, the striker admitted the moment brought mixed feelings.
Despite not playing for Liverpool, he expressed satisfaction in helping Forest secure a crucial victory at a time when the team needed points.
Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin ahead of the 2022/23 season and has since established himself as a key figure in the club’s attack, continuing to play a vital role in their Premier League campaign.
