The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Fulani herdsman Yahaya Sulaiman in Ijebu-Jesa, Oriade Local Government Area, and says investigations are underway to secure his release.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the incident was reported immediately and officers responded swiftly to the scene. Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was deliberately targeted by the gunmen, who reportedly asked a resident about his whereabouts before carrying out the attack.
“The incident was reported and police moved to the scene immediately. From all indications, he was targeted,” Ojelabi said. He added that while the investigation is ongoing, the victim’s family has yet to formally contact the anti-kidnapping unit, but police are actively pursuing leads.

A local source said the abduction occurred around 9 pm on May 4, 2026, along the Iloko/Ijebu-Jesa Road. The gunmen, who appeared to have prior knowledge of Sulaiman, specifically demanded information about him before whisking him away to an unknown location.
The source also revealed that the abductors have demanded a ransom of N70 million after contacting the victim’s family. Sulaiman, described as a prominent cattle rearer in the area, was taken late in the evening during the attack.
Police have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could assist in the rescue operation and help apprehend the perpetrators.
