
Troops of Sector 1, Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a herder over the alleged destruction of farmland in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State. The development was disclosed by counter-insurgency and security expert Zagazola Makama in a post on X.
Makama said the troops, stationed at Anule, responded to a distress report of farmland destruction in the area at about 12:00 p.m. on May 3. On arrival, the soldiers found a herder grazing cattle on cultivated farmland, causing significant damage to crops.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and necessary action. Makama added that efforts are ongoing to prevent further incidents and ensure peaceful coexistence between farming and herding communities in the area.
Operation Whirl Stroke continues to patrol flashpoints in Benue to curb clashes between farmers and herders and to protect rural livelihoods.
