The Plateau State Police Command has issued a stern warning that anyone attempting to interfere in rape or defilement cases will face immediate arrest and prosecution.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, made this known while addressing journalists in Jos. He emphasized that such offences are serious criminal acts against the state and must not be treated as private or family matters.
According to Ewah, individuals regardless of their social status, position, or influence who approach the police to plead on behalf of suspects will be treated as accessories after the fact and charged accordingly.
He stressed that shielding offenders or attempting to obstruct justice will not be tolerated.
The commissioner has also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to ensure that all reported cases of rape and defilement are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
